One of the most important celebrations in Mexico is the Day of the Dead that takes place November 1st and 2nd.
The Day of the Dead or of the Souls, as it is known in the indigenous communities Purepechas, was declared Cultural Heritage of the Humanity in 2003. Mexico stands out by its transcendence and traditions; some of the most relevant ones take place in Michoacan, being one of the most significant ritual expressions.
In Patzcuaro, the festivity gathers everyone. Traditionally, November 1st is the day in which the deceased children “return”, while November 2nd is the day for the adults. During the festivity, the relatives of the deceased go the graveyard to clean and decorate the tombs.
