Drowned Church in Churumuco

Churumuco

The Saint Peter Parish, better known as the Drowned Church of Churumuco, was built in 1800. It was covered by water, alongside the whole town, in 1965, because of the construction of the Infiernillo dam. In 1813, the priest José María Morelos y Pavón, an important historical figure of Mexico, offered several masses in this place.
