Melchor Ocampo Square

Morelia

This is one of the most important squares in Morelia since it is very close to the Cathedral and it is surrounded by several shops and establishments. A statue of Melchor Ocampo (who served as governor of Michoacán) and a vertical fountain stand in the middle of the esplanade. The place frequently hosts all kinds of shows and public events, such as the traditional Day of the Dead exhibition. Previously it was known as Plaza de San Juan de Dios, since there used to be a hospital with that same name opposite to the square.
