The Senguio sanctuary is one of the places in Michoacan where you can go watch the Monarch butterfly hibernating. The Sanctuary is located within the Sierra Chincua. To reach the area of the Monarch, you can go on foot, on horseback or in a van; it takes approximately two hours. It is open year round, however you need to go between November and March if you want to see the Monarch butterfly, for it is the time it is hibernating.

    Getting there

    Highway 15D Mexico-Morelia-Guadalajara. Exit at Maravatio and head towards Tlalpujahua. After the El Fresno dam you will find the intersection with route 52 on your right. Take that road all the way to Senguio.
